I absolutely love this time of year, don’t you? Nights are lighter and longer, the weather is getting warmer and there are so many colourful trees in blossom with amazing smells!
When I’m outside at this time of year it takes me right back to my childhood, when I’d be outside playing with my mates in the woods across the road for hours only coming home in time for tea! No technology, no distractions, just innocent fun!
As soon as the clocks change I feel like I come out of hibernation and have so much more energy. I am without a doubt a Spring/Summer body and definitely suffer from SAD through the winter months!
I love the outdoors, whether I’m exercising in it, walking the dog in the local park or sitting in the garden with a large gin and tonic!
Here are some of the benefits of spending time in nature:-
- Improves your mental health
- Reduces stress
- Lowers blood pressure
- Reduces anxiety
- Increases alertness
- Provides your body with much needed Vitamin D
- Natural light elevates your mood
- Gives you better quality of sleep
- Boosts your immune system
So to benefit from the above get yourself outside………..
- Take a walk in the local park especially if it’s got a pond/lake, water is very calming!
- Cycle to work, combine commuting, exercise and fresh air!
- Sit outside a cafe and people watch (one of my favourite things!)
- Find a bench and sit and read a book
- Exercise in the garden, just 10, 15 or 20 minutes will make you feel great!
I hope this inspires you to follow the sunshine!
