As it’s going to be a very different Xmas this year I feel that I have to try to be even more festive than usual to make up for the lack of parties, events, get togethers etc ….
I’m embracing a quieter Xmas at home with family and my first one as a Nana, very excited about that!
What are you up to, I’d love to know? Are you managing to meet up with family or are you playing it safe and staying home alone?
I thought I’d give you a few tips on how to stay healthy(ish)!! over the festive period while still enjoying the treats along the way!
1) Stay hydrated by drinking at least 2 litres of water daily, especially drink a glass of water before you eat and always drink water while you are drinking alcoholic beverages as this will help you to stay sober and avoid a hangover!
2) Move more – Just get outside and walk off those extra calories, you’ll be amazed how much difference that makes and you will really keep the weight off if you manage at least 10,000 steps daily!
3) Limit your treats – Don’t deprive yourself but also don’t go mad. It’s easy to get into a vicious circle of bingeing on chocolates, cakes, sweets, cheese etc then feeling guilty and to make you feel better you repeat it…..STOP!!
4) Eat enough protein – This really helps to fill you up so eat more of the good stuff with plenty of vegetables therefore leaving less room for the naughty treats!
5) Exercise daily – This could be a long walk or a short workout. You only need to do 15/20 minutes a day to really torch those calories! You will also feel so much better after exercising that you will not want to ruin it by eating rubbish!
6) Eat slowly – This will make a huge difference to the amount you eat so chew your food well, put your fork down between mouthfuls and be mindful of what you are eating, don’t inhale your food!
7) Get good sleep – So important as we tend to make bad decisions when we are tired and are more likely to head straight for the comfort food!
8) Last but not least – Don’t beat yourself up! You are bound to overindulge over Xmas but just try to limit the damage and therefore limit the amount of work required in January because let’s face it, who wants to go on a diet in cold dreary January!?
