I want to discuss NEAT with you, you may have heard of it or you may not!
It stands for Non exercise activity thermogenesis which is the energy expended during a day not including sleeping, eating, breathing and formal exercise! So basically everything from walking to the shops, up and down stairs, cleaning, cooking, gardening, fidgeting etc etc.
Your NEAT will be high if you have an active job and are on your feet a lot but if you are sedentary and have a desk bound job then it will be low.
There are ways to improve it especially if you are looking to lose weight and improve your fitness and here are some tips if you are stuck at a desk all day!
1) Get up from your chair every hour and work standing for a few minutes.
2) Walk around the office every hour just to stretch your legs.
3) Stand up and sit down on your chair a few times every hour, similar to squatting.
4) Do some arm exercises while sat at your desk.
5) March you feet up and down whilst seated.
6) Do a few shoulder rolls, shrugs, side bends.
7) Sit on a stability ball instead of a chair as this will really improve posture and avoid slouching.
8) Fidget at your desk and change position, do some heel raises etc.
I hope this helps!
