Hi there and welcome to my first blog of 2016!
Are you one of those people that make a new year resolution to get fit and healthy? Do these sound familiar?
- This year I will lose 1/2/3 stone
- This year I will get fit
- This year I will eat healthier food
- This year I will drop a dress size
- This year I will get back into my jeans
- This year I will get rid of my cellulite
etc etc etc blah blah blah……………..
Why wait until the new year and put all that pressure on yourself? People who want to lose weight and get fitter normally put way too much pressure on themselves and push themselves too hard too soon. They go from not working out at all to visiting the gym 5 times a week, they go from eating ‘beige’ food to drinking juices and eating salads. Such a drastic change is very hard to sustain and is also quite miserable as your body will testify.
If you have a big change to make then do it gradually. Start reducing your caffeine intake, drink more water, eat more greens, cut back on carbs, limit your alcohol intake, start visiting the gym a couple of times a week and enjoy the workout. Try to do one of these things then introduce another when you are ready and you will gradually see your body change and your energy levels improve which will then encourage you to stick to it. So what if it takes you 6/12 months to get the results you want, having done it slowly you are much more likely to maintain the new you!
You can start with a detox which you will find here on my website which will help kickstart you into eating better but it is quite restrictive so it really depends whether you are an all or nothing person. I find it really difficult to deprive myself of anything but then I don’t overeat/drink anything and I like a piece of chocolate everyday and a glass of wine most evenings. Some people can’t do that and have to either eat/drink the lot or go without. My detox really suits the all or nothing person, which are you?
Everybody is different and it’s not a one size fits all approach so if you are like me I personally eat healthy food most of the time but have a small treat daily and I exercise often but then I love exercise of all kinds! (Call me mad!)
If you are not like me and can’t have chocolate in the house because you will eat the whole bar then maybe start with my detox and gradually reintroduce foods afterwards. It is very satisfying completing the detox as the weight drops off but then you can’t return to your bad habits afterwards as the weight will come back on soon as! My detox makes you aware of what you eat and drink and how much of that is actually habit and not required or even desired. I used to always have 1 or 2 chocolate biscuits with my afternoon cuppa because I thought I couldn’t survive without that sweet hit but guess what, I can!
I am available for one to one sessions to help you get started so please let me know if you would be interested in that. I always offer a free consultation to discuss your requirements and if I think you have the discipline to work out on your own then I can devise a program for you and leave it with you, a more affordable option!
Here’s to a healthier, fitter, cleaner, leaner and amazing 2016!!
