At the age of 57 I thought I had transitioned through menopause and come out the other side pretty much unscathed.
I was wrong.
I have had a bad bout of anxiety that has lasted a few weeks and has resulted in me feeling very low, having dark, morbid thoughts and overthinking every possible scenario.
Every woman’s menopause journey is unique to her and you cannot compare.
What you can do is research and arm yourself with as much information as possible to enable you to help yourself as much as you can and then if that doesn’t work there is always HRT which to some I know is a blessing! It is so important at this stage of life to look after your body by feeding it with good, healthy nutritious food including lots of green leafy vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats. Including nuts, seeds, legumes, beans, and really adding colour to your plate to ensure you get a whole mix of nutrients. Exercising regularly is also key and doing the right type of exercise also. Strength training is a must as our muscles atrophy when we age and we need to keep our joints supple and our bones strong. Weight bearing exercise is also important and walking is the best exercise out there for general health and fat burning potential as well as being great for the soul. Stretching, meditation, pilates and yoga are all good additions to any exercise regime especially midlife women and incorporating balance work into your daily routine.
Make sure you have enough vitamins and look into possibly taking supplements such as Vit B, Vit D and Vit E and get out into sunlight daily. Magnesium is great for sleep and has a calming effect if you suffer with anxiety.
I will be doing a lot more of my own research to try to combat the anxiety and am looking into adaptogen herbs which can really help with symptoms of the menopause.
I will share my findings with you and I would love to hear your menopause story, so please get in touch and let’s see if we can help each other through this challenging time.
All the best
