New Years resolutions, yay or nay!?

New Years resolutions!

Have you made a new years resolution for 2019?!

If you have, was it fitness/health related?!

If the answer was yes then how is it going, are you still succeeding or have you given up?!

Many people make resolutions to get fitter, healthier, slimmer, more toned etc but quite often they set the bar too high therefore setting themselves up to fail!

In my opinion it would be better and more effective to break down your resolutions into bite sized chunks which would make it easier to achieve therefore giving yourself a feeling of satisfaction.

For example, make a decision to move more and eat better but do it gradually, over a period of time. Start to look at cooking more from scratch, experimenting with new recipes and introducing foods into your diet that you are not familiar with. Don’t tell yourself that you are ‘going on a diet’ as this immediately makes you feel deprived and hungry! Eat healthy, home cooked meals with plenty of vegetables, protein, non starchy carbs and you shouldn’t get hungry inbetween meals. We often snack out of habit and not because we are actually hungry! 3 meals a day without snacking and you should be able to reach your goals, if you are eating the right kinds of food and not overeating which can still be done even if what you are eating is good for you! Stick to savoury choices as much as possible as this will help reduce sweet cravings.

Move more whether it’s walking daily, doing a yoga or pilates session, joining a gym or a tennis club. You don’t have to workout hard, unless you choose to, to see results and feel better in yourself. Most people aren’t looking for an athlete’s body!

Enjoy the journey! This is not a small term fix, this is a lifetime commitment!

Take time out for yourself as this is so important to destress the body. This can be meditation, walking, meeting a friend for coffee, taking a long bath, whatever works for you!

Join my New Year 30 day Refresh Program starting on Monday 21st January. This is a healthy eating plan and no foods are banished. The aim is to learn to eat in a balanced and mindful way! This is run via a private Facebook group and is FREE!
