The government set to reduce portion sizes…….

The government are planning on taking control of portion sizes where they can to try to encourage people to eat less.

Foods being targeted are pizzas, takeaways, ready meals and processed food.

The aim is to cut calorie consumption by 20% by 2024!

£6bn is the annual cost to the NHS for obesity!

At present it is all too easy to overeat due to increased portion sizes, packaging and plate sizes!

People tend to eat what they are given and not what they need so it makes sense to make the plates smaller.

When I was a child everything came in much smaller sizes but now it has all been supersized and we are encouraged to buy ‘share’ packets that we end up eating all ourselves! Chocolate bars are also double the size they used to be along with fizzy drinks, the bigger the bottle the cheaper it is and all this ‘buy one get one free’ nonsense for all the rubbish food like cakes, biscuits, fizzy drinks, pastries!!

It is thought that a quarter of our food is now purchased from cafes, restaurants or takeaway outlets where the portions are ‘generous’!

I think the government has a responsibility to help people to make healthier choices and this can be a start in controlling the obesity problem we have in the UK.

Unfortunately, a lot of the food we eat is not nutrient dense and does not satisfy us for long. Diet fizzy drinks are consumed without any nutritious substance leaving us hungrier after drinking it therefore consuming more calories from food!

Eating proper food and cooking from scratch is the answer and filling up on the good stuff which will keep us satiated for longer and will stop the cravings for ‘junk’ food!

Cutting calories and changing the way we eat is all of our responsibilty, the government, the food manufacturers and us as indivividuals!

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the government or do you think they should keep their nose out of our business?!

Let me know, I love to hear your opinions!
